WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTION

Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last teeth to erupt in the adult mouth. Generally, they erupt between the ages of 17 and 21. Unfortunately, they are often angled and not in a functional position, which can create limited space for a successful eruption and can affect other permanent teeth. When wisdom teeth erupt, if there are challenges, brushing and keeping those areas clean can be quite difficult which increases the likelihood of decay and soft tissue infections.

We can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict if there are present or future potential problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in better outcomes.

• Periodontal Disease
  

  This is a serious gum condition that can develop if wisdom teeth are not removed. This disease causes damage the gums and can destroy the jawbone. If damage occurs, bacteria may spread and infect more teeth

• Infection
  

  An infection may develop in difficult to clean areas if bacteria collects.

• Pain
  

  When wisdom teeth erupt,  brushing and keeping those areas clean can be quite difficult for some people, which increases the likelihood of decay and soft tissue infections.

• Decay
  

  Neighboring teeth may experience decay or resorption.

• Sinus Issues
  

  When wisdom teeth erupt it may cause sinus pain, pressure and congestion.

• Impaction
  

  If you have teeth that are impacted, it can impact your ability to chew.

• Crowding
  

  Existing teeth may shift when wisdom teeth erupt, which can undo the effects of braces.

• Cysts and/or Tumors
  

  A fluid-filled cyst or tumor may develop, which can lead to more serious problems as it hollows out the jaw and damages surrounding nerves, teeth and other structures.

Wisdom teeth procedures typically take 30 to 60 minutes. You can expect to be in our office 1.5 to 2 hours for consultation, the procedure and in-office recovery time.
